Easy Thanksgiving Crafts to Try

Monday, November 25th, 2013

Other than turkey legs and parades, getting into the Thanksgiving spirit is the best part about this time of year. We have already talked about ways to give back, now we’re talking about how to get the family involved and in the holiday spirit with themed arts and crafts!

Get Creative This Holiday Season

Old toilet paper rolls are free and easy to come by; they also make a great Thanksgiving day craft. There are many things that you can make out of an old roll of toilet paper. For starters, there’s the turkey. The only materials you would need for this are the old toilet paper roll, colored construction paper, scissors, googly eyes, glue, and a black marker.

Some people take their turkey to a whole different level by adding actual feathers that can easily be bought at your local arts and crafts store. You can also make a really cool top hat (like what Abe Lincoln used to wear) or even a little Pilgrim family. Check out this post on Pinterest that shows different ideas and ways to create your turkey.

We love Pumpkins here at so it is only right that we have at least one pumpkin thanksgiving craft. This Pumpkin is called “The Thankful Pumpkin”. The materials needed for a craft like this one are colored construction paper, scissors, markers, and a stapler or tape.

Cut the construction paper into strips and have everyone in your family write down something they are thankful for. After all of the strips are marked with gratitude, piece them together and form a pumpkin. Here is a photo of the idea from Pinterest:

Kids can write what they are thankful for on strips of paper. Then piece them all together to make a Thanksgiving decoration!

Notes of ‘thanks’ made into a pumpkin.

These are just a couple of the ideas I came across on Pinterest. SearchThanksgiving Crafts and get your craft on! There are tons of easy and cute ideas.

Have a favorite Thanksgiving craft? Comment and let us know!

Give Back This Thanksgiving

Friday, November 15th, 2013

This Thanksgiving before you cut your turkey and watch all of the Thanksgiving parades, take a moment to make someone’s holiday a special one. Here is a list of places you can volunteer this Thanksgiving.

Put the “Thanks” Back into Thanksgiving This Season

Prepare Thanksgiving dinner with Community Kitchen Inc. on Monday, November 25 through Wednesday, November 27 from 1pm-2:30pm. The Community Kitchen needs help preparing turkeys and other items for their Thanksgiving meal for the homeless and others in need. There are 25 spots available for those who are interested. To register and get further details, email Marilyn Oberting at

If that time doesn’t work for your schedule, LifeCare Alliance also needs help preparing Thanksgiving dinner on Monday, November 25 from 5:30pm-7:30pm. This is in partnership with Columbus Gives Back and will serve area senior through LifeCare Alliance’s Meals on Wheels program. Register online for the event or email the email event coordinator, Caroline at

Besa Community will be hosting an early Thanksgiving dinner for homeless youth on Wednesday, November 27 from 5pm-7pm. This will not be your traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Coordinators are asking volunteers to bring one dish – fruit, salad, desserts, etc. The main dish will be provided by Mikey’s Late Night Slice. Check out Besa Community and sign-up to volunteer at this nontraditional Thanksgiving dinner.

If you’re anything like me, cooking anything is just not in the cards. Instead, do something active and volunteer, run, or walk at the annual 5 mile Chase Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot presented by Whole Foods and Ultra Fit USA. This is a family event that takes place Thanksgiving morning benefiting children with autism. Register online for this event as a volunteer, runner, or walker.

Thanksgiving is not only a time to enjoy family and great food. It is the perfect time to reflect on how fortunate we all are to have a place to go for a hot meal and live in good health. Know of any other ways to give back this Thanksgiving? Comment and let us know!

5 Pumpkin Flavored Foods You Must Try

Wednesday, November 13th, 2013

Yes, it is that time of year where there is Pumpkin everything. From candy, to coffee, to pies, we are in the prime of Pumpkin Season. Take a look at these 5 pumpkin flavored treats that you must try.

1. Hershey’s Pumpkin Spice There’s no better way to have pumpkin than with chocolate, right? This treat has a golden outside with a pumpkin spice flavored filling wrapped in a special orange and brown foil. This is a limited edition treat and is available at your local grocery or convenient store while supplies last.

2. Jet-Puffed Pumpkin Spice Marshmallows Marshmallows are amazing! Apparently they are even better with a hint of pumpkin. This fluffy treat is available at your local grocery store and is quite the catch so get yours before it is too late!

3. Pumpkin Cheesecakes I am a huge fan of cheesecake but I’m not quite sure how I feel about pumpkin cheesecake. This treat can be made multiple ways and there are tons of recipes on Pinterest about how to perfect this dish. Check it out and send me over a piece!

4. Pumpkin Pancakes I could eat pancakes at any hour of the day. But pumpkin pancakes? Hm. I have never had the pleasure of indulging in this seasonal cuisine but I have a feeling that I could possibly become obsessed. You can’t go wrong with Pinterest when it comes to looking up recipes. Add some sausage to your pumpkin pancakes and I’ll see you in the morning!

5. Pumpkin Spice Latte You can’t have pumpkin season without the pumpkin spice latte. The limited editions drinks are located at nearly every coffee shop you can think of in Columbus – local shops and the franchises. Enjoy this drink hot or cold!

At this point I’m not sure if there is a possibility that you can have too much pumpkin! What’s your favorite pumpkin treat? Comment and let us know!

Enhanced Video Production
We’ve got some big plans coming up on the visual side of things here at We can’t give anything away just yet, but know that some of the content currently available to you is going to be presented in a completely new and innovative way. This would take time and money, and the grant would help us achieve our goal in timely manner!

Expanded Audio Capabilities
We pride ourselves on being able to provide our hosts with the highest quality studio equipment available. We are looking to elevate our technological power to reach our full potential and bring you radio, the way it should be heard!

Increased Community Involvement
This is perhaps the most important one of all. Establishing and maintaining a relationship with the community is at the core of everything we do here at We experience pure joy when we get the opportunity to meet you all face-to-face and hear about your favorite programs on our roster. The grant would allow us to participate in even more events to bring us closer to you!

So help us reach our goal of 250 Facebook votes by clicking HERE. It’s fast and easy to do!
